"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths" (Prov. 3:5, 6).

It was through a trying experience in 1953 that I learned much of God and His ways: how He waits patiently for us to seek His help; how He reassures us again and again. I learned that it isn't necessary to be a seasoned Christian Scientist in order to demonstrate the power of Truth. I learned how essential perseverance is and how important it is to obey divine orders.

When I reached the screaming child, blood was gushing from her mouth, and I could not tell what the injury was. My knees were weak, and I quickly sat down in a chair and held her quietly to keep her from becoming hysterical and to collect myself.
