"NOTHING SHORT OF RIGHT IS RIGHT"

The writer was driving along the California coast when he noticed painted in huge, black letters on the side of a large aircraft plant the words, "Nothing Short of Right Is Right." These words deeply impressed him and have been of great practical value in his application of the truths of Christian Science to his business, home, church and other activities.

Mary Baker Eddy parallels the thought under discussion when she writes in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 448), "It is Christian Science to do right, and nothing short of right-doing has any claim to the name." Her statement is closely related to that of the Apostle James (2:10), "Whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all."

Mrs. Eddy based her sense of right on the Ten Commandments and the Sermon on the Mount. She expected her followers to be guided in all their human activities by the precepts found there. As Christian Scientists, we have a solemn obligation to God, to our church, to mankind, and to ourselves to live up to the high standard set by the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings. We should measure all our conduct by this standard, and anything that falls short of complete right must be corrected.
